Bülent Güneralp, bass-baritone, is increasingly in demand as an emerging artist. He is equally at home in many diverse genres including opera, musical theater, oratorio, art song, folk and spirituals. He has performed as soloist in many operas, oratorios and concerts with organizations including CRR Symphony Orchestra in his native Istanbul, Turkey; Tokyo City Opera Orchestra in Japan; Hudson Valley Philharmonic and Opera Company of the Highlands in NY; Orient Heights Music, Mass Theatrica, Opera del West, Longwood Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, Masterworks Chorale and Riverside Theatre Works in MA, at venues including Atatürk Culture Center, CRR Concert Hall and Yıldız Palace in Istanbul; Bardavon Opera House in NY; Symphony Hall, Sanders, Zeiterion and Riverside Theaters in MA.
Among Mr. Güneralp’s diverse roles last season have been Colline in Puccini's La Bohème, Le Marquis de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites in MA, and Benoit & Alcindoro in La Bohème in NY. He was the soloist in the world-premiere of Missa Patri Pio by Leonardo Ciampa, recently premiered the role of Jewish Man in The Prioress's Tale by Delvyn Case, won the 3rd place in the adult division of the 2008 NATS Musical Theater Festival Boston Chapter, and sang at the University of Connecticut as The Palace Guard in the workshop performance of The Wooden Sword by Sheila Silver.
In addition to his frequent recitals, engagements this year include performances in MA as Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola with Opera del West, as Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi with Boston Opera Collaborative, as John Claggart (Billy Budd), Don Quixote (Man of La Mancha) and Jud Fry (Oklahoma!) in the Longwood Opera Summer Concerts, as Don Giovanni and Billy Bigelow (Carousel) in Worcester Opera Summer Concerts, as the bass soloist in Händel’s Messiah Oratorio with ENC Choral Union. In 2009 he will premier in MA a song cycle by Leonardo Ciampa, perform as Don Giovanni and Méphistophélès with Orient Heights Music, as Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Worcester Opera Works, as Frank in die Fledermaus with Opera del West, as Jewish Man in The Prioress's Tale (repeated in CT), as the bass soloist in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with Quincy Choral Society and in the world-premiere of Peace Cantata by Nikan Milani.
Also a successful vocal instructor, Mr. Güneralp, welcoming singers from any age group and experience level, has, with equal success, taught singers from backgrounds as diverse as opera, musical theater, pop, soul, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, rock and heavy metal. He is familiar with a wide spectrum of musical styles not only because of his interest in them as a singer, but also his background as a professional drummer.
He is on the faculty at Quincy Point Music Academy, and is an instructor at The Boston Center for Adult Education, teaching music appreciation courses with an emphasis on opera and musical theater. He taught voice at the Boston Conservatory Summer Choral Institute, also taught master classes at the Berkshire Hills and Hamilton-Garret Music Academies.
Mr. Güneralp is a member of Boston Opera Collaborative where he performs as well as serves on the artistic staffing committee. He is also a member of the international contemporary music ensemble "Musica Anatolia", the concert duo "La Scena" with pianist Eunyoung Kim, and is on the roster of Enterprise Opera in RI.
